Jane Gunn

Professor Gunn is the inaugural Chair of Primary Care Research and Head of the Academic Centre for General Practice and Primary Health Care, University of Melbourne. She has worked as an Academic GP since 1991 and has built a successful Primary Care Research Unit with research streams in mental health, chronic disease, violence & abuse and youth health. She is a Past President of the Australian Association for Academic Primary Care and serves on a number of professional committees such as: the National Health and Medical Research Council Research Committee, beyondblue Victorian Centre of Excellence in Research and Evaluation in Depression, the National Prescribing Service Medicines Insight Advisory Group, the NHMRC Committee for Developing Guidelines for Borderline Personality Disorder.  She is the inaugural Chair of the Board of Directors of the Northern Melbourne Medicare Local. She has been chair and member of NHMRC grant and fellowship review panels and is on the Editorial Boards of ‘Annals of Family Medicine’, the ‘Journal of Co-Morbidity’, ‘Mental Health in Family Medicine’ and ‘Asia Pacific Family Medicine’ and a member of the Primary Care Advisory Panel of the BMJ. She leads the diamond cohort study, one of the 5 research projects in mental health selected by the NHMRC (featured in the 2009 publication ‘NHMRC: Working to Build a Healthy Australia’). The diamond findings are gaining international attention and are influencing translational research.
